Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd, the world’s third -largest maker of handsets, has unveiled a plan to hold a 25 per cent share of the market in Vietnam and Southeast Asia, state media has said.

The South Korean electronics giant Samsung April 16 unveiled 18 models at the Samsung Mobile Roadshow 2008 in Hanoi, entitled “imagine mobile phones for every lifestyle”.

Based on the company’s new consumer segmentation model, the all-encompassing line-up offers a mobile for every lifestyle with names such as style, multimedia, infotainment, business, connected and essential.

The new offerings will help the company double regional handset sales to 200 million units in 2008 equivalent to a 25 per cent market share, Samsung said.

Samsung, which trails Nokia and Motorola in the global handset market, has recently shown a recovery in its mobile phone business helped by a new focus on medium- and lower-end models.

The group has been seeking to build a new mobile phone plant in Vietnam. It, however, has not made the final decision on the location and size of investment for its new plant.
