Mine Action Team to Visit Vietnam

According to the Embassy of Canada, the Mine Action Team led by General Maurice Baril, former Chief of the Defence Staff of the Canadian Forces and Special Advisor to Canada's Ambassador for Mine Action will visit to Vietnam on May 12-13, 2008.


The purpose of the visit is to foster a dialogue with the Vietnamese Government on the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production, and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on Their Destruction.
During the visit to Vietnam of retired General Baril and Ms Kim Henrie-Lafontaine, Senior Program Coordinator for Canada's Mine Action Team, they will meet with Vietnamese officials from the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Assembly, non-governmental organisations and related agencies.


The visit to Vietnam is one of the destinations of the Team's Ottawa Convention Universaliszation trip to Asia, including Nepal, Laos, and Vietnam as a follow-up of the Ottawa Convention Implementation and Universalization Workshop which was held from February 25 to 27, 2008 in Indonesia.
