Malaysia-Vietnam Economic Forum 2008

Nearly 500 representatives of Malaysian small and medium-sized enterprises March 27 gathered at Malaysia-Vietnam Economic Forum 2008 held in Kuala Lumpur, Vietnam News Agency reported.
 
At the forum entitled “Malaysia and Vietnam on the way of development”, the Malaysian Minster of Industry and International Trade said Malaysia is now Vietnam’s 10th biggest trade partner and the second biggest in ASEAN
 
Malaysia obtained US$2.4 billion in export turnover to Vietnam, up 23.8 per cent on-year, while it gained import turnover worth US$1.3 billion from the market in 2007.
 
The country currently ranks second among ASEAN countries with 232 projects worth US$1.8 billion.
 
Speaking at the meeting, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Do Huu Hao said Vietnam warmly welcomes Malaysian companies to invest in different areas in the country.
 
Vietnam has been doing its utmost to bring more favourable conditions to Malaysian investors in particular and those from Asean in general.
 
The Malaysia-Vietnam Economic Forum 2008, jointly held by the Union of Malaysian Small and Medium-sized Enterprise Associations and the Vietnamese Embassy in the country, is part of activities to mark the two nations’ 35th year of diplomatic relation (March 30 1973-March 30 2008). (VNA)
