Hungary to Support US$58.3 Mln for Vietnammâs Development
The Hungarian government is about to give the nod to grant EUR35 million (US$58.3 million) to support development in Vietnam, visiting Minister of Foreign Affairs Kinga Goncz said.
The Hungarian diplomat made the statement while being received by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in Hanoi March 20.
She told Dung that investors of Hungary are interested in expanding their operations in Vietnam and mulling over the establishment of a representative office in the country to promote bilateral trade and economic ties, particularly in tourism and urban development.
Kinga Goncz is now on an official visit to the Southeast Asian nation from March 19-21 at the invitation of her Vietnamese counterpart Pham Gia Khiem.
During the meeting on the same day, the two foreign affairs ministers agreed to soon sign a framework agreement on financial cooperation in order to effectively carry out Hungary’s credit aids for Vietnam.
Deputy PM Khiem proposed Hungary to support Vietnam to soon get the European Commission (EC)’s recognition of having a market economy and to be included in the list of Generalized System Preference (GSP) in the 2009-12 period. He also wished the EC to drop anti-dumping against several of Vietnam’s export items to the EU.
Vietnam and Hungary established diplomatic ties on February 3, 1950. Trade turnover between the two nations was only US$56 million in 2006 was estimated to reach US$70 million last year. (VNA, The People)
