Vietnam and Hungary signed May 16 in Hanoi four cooperative deals in fields of financial support, health, education and tourism from now to 2011, state media said on May 19.

The signing was under the presence of President Nguyen Minh Triet and the visiting Hungarian President Laszlo Solyom.

Under the signed deal on financial support, Hungary will provide Vietnam with a EUR35 million worth credit to promote projects on water supply, waste treatment and population management.

During his first trip to Vietnam slated from May 15-19, the Hungarian leader was received by the Party and State’s senior leaders, including Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, Party chief Nong Duc Manh, and National Assembly Nguyen Phu Trong.

The two sides agreed that the bilateral trade value between Vietnam and Hungary, which hit nearly US$90 million last year, is not on par with the two countries’ potential.

Laszlo Solyom stressed his hope that the Southeast Asian nation will give more favorable conditions to Hungarian investors to do business in their potential fields like IT, education and training, finance, health and pharmacy.

“Hungary is willing to share its experiences as well as cooperating with Vietnam in dealing with climate change’s impacts,” Laszlo said at the separate meeting with the host PM Dung.

A Vietnam-Hungary round table conference on the matter was held on the occasion.

While in Vietnam, Hungarian President and his entourage visited cities of Quang Ninh in North and Ho Chi Minh City in South to seek cooperative opportunities.

Laszlo Solyom will leave Vietnam’s southern economic hub today to continue his Asia tour to Indonesia and Singapore. (Tuoi Tre Online, Website of CPV)
