Vietnam - Japans Submerged Forests Growing Cooperation
More than 40 members of the Action for Mangrove Reforestation (ACTMANG) of Japan joined a programme on mangrove forest growing cooperation held in Khanh Hoa province between 25th July and 27th July, 2008.
This is a part of the programme on mangrove forest recovery in countries coping with saline intrusion on the mainland by ACTMANG in coordination with Japan’s Tokyo Marine. In Vietnam, the programme is being carried out in cooperation with the Centre for Research of Environment and Natural Resources (CRES) under the Hanoi National University and Khanh Hoa province.
Within three days, almost 4 ha of saline-submerged land were planted with more than one tonne of mangrove seeds in the Ninh Ich and Ninh Ha communes in Ninh Hoa district. Since 1992, the programme has helped grow over 2,500 ha of mangrove forests in the coastal cities and provinces of Vietnam. The total area includes about 20 ha in coastal localities in Khanh Hoa province.
