DOC Exempts Import Tax for 3 Vietnamese Catfish Firms
The U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) officially exempted import tax on pangasius catfish exported by three Vietnamese companies who proved that they did not dump, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
The companies included the East Sea Seafoods Joint Venture Co. Ltd (ESS), the QVD Food Co. (QVD), and the Anvifish.
The tax exemption will be applied for catfish containers imported to the U.S. from August 1, 2005 to July 31, 2006.
DOC first taxed 14.59 per cent on QVD’s pangasius catfish, and 15.38 per cent on Anvifish’s catfish, but then had to remove the tax because it did not find any evidence of dumping.
Currently, the common tax for other Vietnamese companies’ catfish is 63.88 per cent, for shipment from August 1, 2006 to January 31, 2007. (VASEP)
