Vietnam Southern Province Reaps Nearly US$4Bln from Exports in Jan-August

Southern Binh Duong province of Vietnam reportedly earned US$3.95 billion from exports in the first eight months of this year, up 24.1 per cent on-year, said local officials.
 
The figure accounted for 9.12 per cent of the country’s total export revenue during the period.
 
Of the sum, foreign-invested sector contributed US$2.89 billion, up 25.2 per cent on-year while the domestic sector produced over US$1 billion, up 21.2 per cent.
 
Among the province’s 15 exports, cashew nut obtained the highest growth of 42.5 per cent, followed by plastic products of 36.5 per cent, electric wires and cables of 34.1 per cent and pepper of 31.2 per cent.
 
Some key exports such as garments, footwear, and handicrafts reported slower growth than expected ones at 7.4 per cent, 18.4 per cent and 9.7 per cent, respectively.
 
Currently, China, Germany, Holland, Japan, South Korea, the U.K. and the U.S. remain the province’s major markets.
 
According to the provincial export development plan until 2010 set early this year, the province aims US$2.8 billion of woodwork product exports in 2010, US$1.8 billion in footwear, US$1.2 billion in textiles, and US$282 million in handicrafts. (VNS)
