Vietnam Garment Exports Likely to Fail Yearly Target
Vietnam will be listed among top ten apparel exporters in the world this year with export revenues of US$9.2 billion-US$9.3 billion, compared with the set target of US$9.5 billion, according to Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas).
Vitas said in the final months of this year, the industry is facing many difficulties from its key export markets which are experiencing financial crisis.
According to Le Quoc An, Vitas chairman, the biggest challenge for Vietnamese exporters is now the U.S. monitoring program and the risk of anti-dumping lawsuit as the U.S. market is accounting for up to 55 per cent of Vietnam’s total apparel export value.
The sector is targeting to make export revenues of US$10 billion-US$12 billion and employ some 2.5 million laborers by 2010, compared with the current 2 million. (Labor, Thanh Nien online)
