DOC Says No Enough Evidence to Launch Antidumping Probe on Vietnam Textiles

The U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) has concluded that there is no enough evidence to initiate an anti-dumping investigation into textile and garment imports from Vietnam.

The DOC made the conclusion when announcing the result of the third review on apparel products imported from the Asian country November 21.

The department conducted the third six-month inspection (from February to July 2008) on imports of five apparel categories from Vietnam, including trouser, shirt, underwear, swimwear and sweater.

This was the last review of the monitoring program on Vietnamese apparels before the end of President Bush’s terms.

The program was started since Vietnam officially joined the World Trade Organization (WTO) in January 2007.

This is good news for Vietnam’s textile and garment industry as the U.S. is now the largest importer of Vietnamese apparels, which accounts for 57 per cent of the country’s total textile and garment export revenues, followed by the European Union (EU) 18 per cent and Japan 9 per cent.
