ICAO to Boost Cooperation with Vietnam: President

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is ready and willing to expand the scope its cooperation with Vietnam regarding the training of personnel, Roberto Gonzalez, President of the organization confirmed while meeting with Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet.
 
At the meeting in Hanoi December 3, ICAO’s President valued Vietnam is for its impressive record in aviation safety and security.
 
Roberto Gonzalez spoke highly of the opportunities and potential of the development of Vietnam’s civil aviation sector.
 
He said that the volume of passengers and goods transported by air has steadily increased by 20 per cent and 60 per cent respectively over the past year, creating opportunities for the development of the world’s civil aviation industry.
 
However, this development cannot be separated from safety and security issues and ICAO wished to cooperate closely with Vietnam in effectively dealing with these issues.
 
He also highlighted the effective use of human resources in civil aviation, particularly with regard to pilots, recommending that Vietnam should adopt current ICAO regulations allowing pilots to continue flying until the age of 65 to avoid wasting this valuable human resource.
 
President Triet affirmed that the ICAO leader’s visit is of great significance to the development of Vietnam’s civil aviation sector.
 
He stressed that the Vietnamese aviation industry’s strengths of safety and flight security are great advantages, and these strengths are appreciated by both domestic foreign passengers. (VNA, Saigon Liberation)
