Vietnam Likely to Export Cement in 2010
Vietnam may export cement in 2010 as it is forecast to have a surplus of 5 million-7 million tons in the year, state media said Tuesday, quoting the Ministry of Construction (MoC).
The MoC also said cement makers will meet domestic demand in 2009 as they can produce 45 million-46 million tons while the country is predicted to need some 44 million-45 million tons next year, up 10 per cent-11 per cent on-year.
Of the total cement demand in 2009, southern provinces will need some 18 million tons, of which, 12 million-12.5 million tons will be transported from the north.
An additional 18 cement projects with a combined capacity of 20.47 million tons will be put into operation in 2009, the ministry said, adding 10 cement plants capable of turning out 11.93 million tons in total went on stream in 2008.
By the end of 2009, Vietnam’s cement plants will reach a total capacity of nearly 60 million tons, including 56.8 million tons from reverter-furnace plants and 3 million tons from operating blast-furnace factories. (Labor, Young People)
