The U.S. Department of Agriculture has allowed the Saigon Trade Production Development Joint Stock Company, Sadaco, to export blue-dragon fruit to the U.S. market.

The department recognized that the company’s packing factory in Ham Thuan Nam, central Binh Thuan province, meets almost all of its requirements, including organic material area, and irradiation system.

Sadaco is now the fifth company in Vietnam eligible to export blue-dragon fruit to the U.S. It expected to ship first container of fruit to the market this February.

The company now has a blue-dragon fruit garden covering 80 hectares and a packing factory covering 600 square meters in Binh Thuan province.

Vietnam’s first shipment of 8 tons of blue-dragon fruits landed at the U.S. early November of 2008. They were selling for US$4.5 per kilogram. The fruit is traded at VND13,000-14,000 a kilogram at local market. (Youth)
