2008 Coal Export Down 38.3 per cent in Volume but Up 44.4 per cent in Value
Vietnam is estimated to have exported 19.7 million tons of coal valued at US$1.44 billion this year, down 38.3 per cent on-year in volume but up 44.4 per cent in value, the General Statistics Office (GSO) reported.
In December, the country ships abroad 1.1 million tons worth US$121 million, the office said.
The country’s top mining company Vinacomin said it will sell between 36 million and 40 million tons in 2009, including 21 million tons for domestic consumption and 15 million-19 million tons for export.
Vinacomin’s coal sales are estimated to reduce by 15.5 per cent on-year to 35 million tons in 2008 due to impacts from the world’s economic downturn. (GSO Dec 2008)
