An international fair on energy efficiency and environment will open in Hanoi from June 18 to 21 with participations of 150 foreign and domestic enterprises, the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) said.

About 200 pavilions including energy-saving and environment-friendly appliances, equipment, technologies, and production lines are expected to be displayed in the ENTECH Hanoi 2009.

Some scientific conferences on energy efficiency and conservation at buildings and industrial production plants, Vietnamese-Korean energy-saving investment, MoIT's energy-saving policies, and a series of symposiums on energy efficiency and environment will take place at the fair.

The five-day event is recognized as a valuable opportunity for enterprises and consumers to approach advanced energy-saving and environment-friendly technologies in the world.

Vietnam is estimated to waste around US$1 million worth of energy each day due to ineffective energy use.

The country will have to invest around US$8 billion in a bid to attain an energy growth rate of 14 per cent. Meanwhile, the country is able to slash between 10 per cent and 20 per cent of energy demand, equivalent to US$8 billion, if it applies efficient energy saving methods. (New Hanoi)
