Farmers in central highlands region of Vietnam, the country’s biggest coffee producing area, are reluctant to sell coffee beans because they thought that the prices would have been higher, the Countryside Today newspaper reported.

Prices of coffee has dropped to VND25,600 a kilogram after Lunar New Year festival after hitting to VND26,400 a kilogram. But local farmers still did not want to sell because they expected at least VND30,000 per kilogram.

Central highlands provinces reported 2008-2009 bumper crop with productivity rising by 20 per cent from previous year. But coffee sale has been stagnant.

Meanwhile, analysts predicted that coffee prices will not surpass VND30,000 a kilogram this year due to low demand at the world market. (Countryside Today)
