Vinacomin Signs Contracts to Sell 37 Million Tons of Coal
State-owned Vinacomin Group said so far this year it has signed contracts to sell total 37 million tons of coal, including exporting more than 15 million tons, and 2009 is expected a good year for the industry.
The country’s largest coal producer said it has signed contracts to export 15 million tons to China alone, and it has also reached deals to ship coal to other countries, Vinacomin said in a statement reviewing its monthly operations.
Vinacomin targets to sell more than 40 million tons this year, including both export and local sales, up from 35 million tons last year, the statement said.
Vietnam was estimated to export 1 million tons of coal valued at US$60 million in January, down 34.2 per cent on year in volume term and down 12.8 per cent in value term, according to government statistics.
In 2008, the country exported 19.7 million tons of coal valued at US$1.44 billion, down 38.3 per cent in volume but up 44.4 per cent in value from 2007. (Coal-Minerals Magazine)
