VFA Refuses Rice Export Registration by late June
The Vietnam Food Association (VFA) said from February 21 it will only receive rice export registration for delivery from July to September 2009.
The move is resulted from the fact that Vietnamese companies have signed contracts to export more than 3.1 million tons of rice in the first half of 2009, accounting for 62 per cent of the country’s total rice export volume for the whole year.
According to figures provided by the General Customs Department, the companies delivered 490,591 tons of rice worth US$192.388 million as of February 13, up three times in terms of both volume and value against the same period of last year.
The companies planned to deliver 900,000 tons by the end of February, with main importers including the Philippines, Iraq, African countries and Cuba.
They have recently signed contracts to export 100,000 tons of 5 per cent broken rice to Malaysia for US$460/ton, up 21 per cent on year.
Currently, rice export price has rebounded to US$350 a ton of 25 per cent broken rice and US$550 a ton of 5 per cent broken rice, up 13 per cent on year.
