Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has recently given a nod to the Vung Ang 2 Thermal Power Joint Stock Company (VAPCO) to develop US$1.2-billion Vung Ang 2 thermal power project in central Ha Tinh province.

VAPCO will build the plant under the build-operate-transfer (BOT) mode.

Hai also assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade and relevant provincial agencies to negotiate with VAPCO about issues related to the project.

Turbine 1 of the 1,200-MW plant is expected for operation in 2013, partly ensuring power supply for the national electricity source.

Vietnam is predicted to face a severe power shortage of 10.3 billion kWh during this year. (The People)
