Vietnam Reports US$297M Trade Surplus with Japan in 2008
Vietnam had a trade surplus of US$297 million with Japan last year, compared with a deficit of US$108 million in 2007, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said in a statement on April 10.
Of the total trade value of US$16.778 billion between the two countries last year, Vietnam’s exports worth US$8.538 billion, up 40.7 per cent on year, and Japan’s exports valued at US$8.241 billion, up 33.4 per cent.
Vietnam’s key export items were seafood, crude oil, garments, electrical wires, computer parts, furniture and coal. The southeast country imported machinery, computers, steel, automobiles, plastics and chemicals, said the ministry.
By end-2008, Japanese companies invested 1,046 projects valued at US$17.16 billion in Vietnam, ranking the third after the Taiwanese and Malaysian. (Trade & Industry News)
