Ben Tre Province’s Post Office was established on December 6, 2007 under the Decision No. 530/QD-TCCB/HDQT by the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group in order to separate merge two functions of the post and telecommunication of the former Ben Tre Post Office. In 2008, the first year operating under the new model, apart from the existing challenges the Ben Tre Post Office gained certain achievements.
Ben Tre is a coastal province where the residents live far from each other. As a result, the development of infrastructures and postal services faces many difficulties, impacting the quality of information and service. Although the province’s economy has developed in almost all of fields, the agriculture still holds a core role. Because the prices of agricultural products are usually low and unstable, the life of a majority of residents is very difficult, which impacts strongly the development of the provincial post sector.
However, thanks to the high determination of the staff team, the leadership of the Posts and Telecommunications Group and the local authority’s support, the Ben Tre Post gained remarkable achievements right in the first year of operation.
In the first year, the provincial post focused immediately on the investment and development of its network. So far, it has developed a total 577 post and telecommunication stations including 66 post offices, 410 polyservice agents and 107 communal cultural post houses, with an average radius between two places of 1.13 km.
In order to meet the development demand, in 2008 the Ben Tre Post Office also rebuilt and upgraded some communal post houses, open more Internet agents in districts and bought more equipment and transport vehicles. The press publication and post work last year exceeded the goals. In 2008, the revenue from press publication reached VND1.6 billion, fulfilling 107.85 percent of the year’s plan while that from post and telecommunication services at VND60.7 billion, gaining 105.1 percent of the plan.
The above achievements were attributed to the close and comprehensive coordination of relevant units. The staff team is often trained the political idea and professional knowledge. The Ben Tre Post Office also promotes many emulation movements, initiatives to encourage the labor productivity.
Early 2008, the Ben Tre Post Office has respond to the emulation movement conducted by the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group by promoting a series of programs like the emulation movement to fulfill the planned targets, the initiatives movement and others to increase the labor productivity and service quality. By doing that, in 2008 the Ben Tre Post Office received many certificates of merit from the Group, Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and the provincial authority.
Last year, the Ministry granted medals for the post, telecommunication and IT cause for 11 excellent cadres and the excellent emulation flag for the Ben Tre Post Office. Ba Tri District’s Post Office was also granted the excellent emulation flag by the Group.
In order to serve the province’ socio-economic development and the people’s demand for postal services, in 2009 the Ben Tre Post Office continues investing to expand its coverage as well as upgrade the district facilities. It also focuses on improving techniques and equipment, tightening the quality management of postal services, in parallel with studying to develop more new services. Particularly, the provincial post keeps eye on applying IT on training, management work and organizing many promotion programs to attract clients.
In addition, the Ben Tre Post Office is also organizing training courses to improve the staff team’s professional knowledge and skills in order to meet the development demand of the post sector in the new era. The provincial post office has targeted to reach revenue of VND61 billion from telecommunication services and press publication this year, up 5.42 percent on year.
