Vietnam Tuna Export Recovering
Export of tuna has been recovering, showing positive signs for the seafood sector after month-long fall, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) said.
In the first quarter of 2009, Vietnam exported 5,954 tons of tuna worth US$19 million, with almost all of the consignments being conducted in February-March, the association said.
The European Union, the United States and Japan remain Vietnam’s biggest tuna importers. The export volume to the U.S. and Japan increased by 34 per cent and 34.5 per cent respectively while the figure to the EU market rose by 23.3 per cent.
In 2008, Vietnam exported 52,818 tons of tuna worth US$188.6 million, up 25 per cent in value despite equality in volume. (Saigon Liberation)
