Vietnam to Build More International Airports
Vietnam is expected to have 10 international airports in the near future under a recently-approved plan by the prime minister to develop some airports across the country.
Under the plan, the central region of Vietnam will have two additional international airports of Cam Ranh and Chu Lai besides existing international ones namely Danang and Phu Bai.
The plan said central Vietnam will be developed into an entrepot and trade central between the Mekong River region and Asia-Pacific. An express corridor route by sea to the North – South will be built in the region.
Meanwhile, southern Vietnam will be home to four international airports of Tan Son Nhat, Can Tho, Phu Quoc and Long Thanh.
In the north, Noi Bai International Airport has got the PM’s nod for upgrade, expected to serve 30 million passengers a year. The northern region also houses Cat Bi International Airport.
The country will need a total of VND221.5 trillion (US$13.4 billion) to develop a network of 26 airports from now to 2020.
Vietnam now has 20 airports, including five international airports which provide services for an estimated 30 million passengers a year, said the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV). (Saigon Liberation)
