Vietnam is estimated to have notched up only US$219 million from exporting 158,000 tons of rubber in the first four months of 2009, seeing sharp decrease of 45.5 per cent in value and slight decrease of 5 per cent in volume against the same period of last year, the government’s General Statistics Office said.

In April, the country exported only 40,000 tons valued at US$57 million, down from 43,000 tons worth US$61 million in March.

The Vietnam Trade Information Center said Vietnam exported 116,000 tons of rubber worth US$157 million in the first quarter of this year, down 6.14 per cent on year in volume and 46.21 per cent in value.

In the first quarter, export of SVR3L accounted for 46 per cent of total rubber export volume, with 53,370 tons worth US$74 million, down 6.52 per cent on year in volume and 48.47 per cent in value.

Export of SVR10 also dropped by 38.14 per cent in volume and 66.57 per cent in value compared to Jan-March 2008, to 15,480 tons worth US$19.3 million.

The center said exports of SVR20 rubber dropped 69.2 per cent; CSR10 down 34.65 per cent and synthetic rubber down 41.58 per cent during the period.

Sharp decrease of export price of almost all type of rubber was the major reason for the revenue drop, the center said. Of which, price of SVR20 dropped 55.42 per cent; RSS3, 48.1 per cent; SVR10, 44.33 per cent, CSR10, 43.78 per cent, and SVR3L, 42.12 per cent. (vinanet.vn)
