Vietnam earned US$122.1 million from shipping 21 million shirts in the first quarter, down 13.9 per cent on-year in volume, but up 1.1 per cent in value, the General Customs Department’s statistics showed.

In March, the country raked in US$37.1 million from exporting 6.5 million shirts, up 1.2 per cent on-month in volume and down 1.3 per cent on-month in value, down 10.9 per cent in volume and 1.3 per cent in value on year.

The increase of export turnover value was allegedly attributed to the hike of shipment price which stood at US$5.79/unit on average, up 17.4 per cent on-year.

In the first three months, Vietnam’s shirt exports to the U.S., the sector’s biggest market, reduced sharply in both volume (21.7 per cent on-year) and value (10.7 per cent).

In the first quarter, there had 283 shirt producers shipping products abroad, more 15 ones than the same period of last year.

The Garment 10 JS Co. ranked the first with two million units valued at US$13.2 million, followed by Viet Tien Garment Co. with 1 million units worth of US$8.2 million and TAV Ltd. Co. with 1.1 million units valued US$7.7 million. (vinanet)
