Vietnam Eyes US$760M from Veggie, Fruit Exports Next Year
Vietnam targets to earn US$760 million from vegetable and fruit exports in 2010 and US$1.2 billion in next ten years, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) said at a seminar in HCM City May 29.
The seminar introduced an export strategy for the vegetable and fruit sector during the 2010-2015 period, encouraging exporters to focus on products with high market demand.
A report from the Vietnam Vegetable and Fruit Association showed that earnings from vegetable and fruit shipments, which have gone to 50 countries and territories worldwide, account for only 2.5 per cent of the country’s total farm produce export turnover.
Between January and May, Vietnam exported US$163 million of vegetable and fruits, down 9.1 per cent on-year due to decreased import orders amid global financial crunch. (VNA)
