Vietnam-Hong Kong Q1 Trade Up 18.9 per cent To US$920M
Bilateral trade between Vietnam and Hong Kong reportedly increased 18.9 per cent to US$920 million in the first quarter, the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade said on its Website Monday.
In the period, Vietnam shipped US$200 million worth of products to Hong Kong, up 5 per cent on-year and imported US$720 million, up 23.5 per cent, resulting in the country’s trade deficit of US$520 million during the period.
Vietnam exported US$53 million worth of telecom devices, up 46.6 per cent on-year, footwear US$22 million, up 15.3 per cent, power equipment US$10 million, up 135.3 per cent, seafood US$8 million, up 16.9 per cent and electronic devices US$7 million, down 36.9 per cent.
The country mainly imported meat products worth US$157 million from Hong Kong, telecom equipment US$104 million, up 29.5 per cent on-year, wool US$51 million, down 5.9 per cent, alcohol beverage US$41 million, down 8.1 per cent, cars US$40 million, up 226 per cent and fruits US$29 million, up 15 per cent.
Two-way trade between Vietnam and Hong Kong last year grew sharply by 23.1 per cent to US$3.75 billion despite the global economic downturn, including Vietnam’s exports of US$998 million and imports of US$2.76 billion, the ministry said. (vinanet)
