Vietnam, Ukraine Aim for US$1B Bilateral Trade in 2011
Vietnam and Ukraine are boosting trade ties in order to push bilateral trade to US$1 billion in 2011, up 83.15 per cent against 2008, said Ukrainian ambassador Ivan Dovgnych at a meeting with Vietnamese businesses in Ho Chi Minh City Jun 12.
The two countries are preparing for negotiations on a free trade agreement (FTA), which will also top the agenda of the Ukrainian Government’s meeting Jul 15-17 in Kiev, said the ambassador.
Bilateral trade will develop rapidly once the FTA is inked as many tariff barriers will be removed, forecasts Ivan Dovgnych.
Last year, the two-way trade reached US$546 million, up 3.5 times from 2007, of which, Vietnam exported US$256 million worth of goods and imported US$290 million.
The bilateral trade is estimated to stand between US$600 million and US$700 million this year, said the ambassador. (vietstock)
