Vietnam PM Approves VND10.5T to Develop Int’lAirport in Central Province

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has just okayed a VND10.5 trillion (US$601 million) plan to develop an international airport in the central province of Khanh Hoa, the Vietnamese government said.
 
Under the plan, the small domestic airport of Cam Ranh will be upgraded into an international airport by 2020, and it will cover 657.9 hectares.
 
By 2020, the airport expects to receive 27 airplanes a day, 5.5 million passengers per year and 100,000 metric tons of cargo a year.
 
By 2030, the airport is projected to serve 37 airplanes a day, eight million passengers per year and 200,000 tons of cargo per year, the government said.
 
Vietnam also plans to invest approximately VND17.25 trillion to develop Phu Bai Airport in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue into an international airport by 2020.
 
The country estimates to need VND221.5 trillion to develop a network of 26 airports through 2020, said Vietnam News Agency. (chinhphu.vn)
