Vietnam Imports US$597M Worth of Pharmaceutical Products in H1
Vietnam imported US$597 million worth of pharmaceutical products in the first half this year, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT).
Of that sum, it bought US$508 million of medicines and US$89 million of materials for medicine production, the MOIT said.
The country’s medicine production value amounted at US$507.6 million, which means that there is a lot of room for investment in medicine manufacturing by both local and foreign businesses, the MOIT added.
Vietnamese people tend to spend more on medicines as their living standards have been improving significantly in recent years. They are forecast to spend up to US$25 per head in 2015, much higher than US$16.45/person/year in 2001.
Vietnam’s medicine industry has been growing by 20 per cent-29 per cent per year, said the Ministry of Health. (Saigon Times Weekly)
