According to Mrs Supawan Teerarat, Exhibition Director and Acting President of Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau states that “As today, Thailand is currently home to a diversify range of industry including automotive, manufacturing, electrical and agricultural and those industries have been benefit of the country’s strategic location at the heart of the ASEAN region to transform the country into a Southeast Asian hub. Ms Nattha Chaowawanich, Deputy Managing Director Reed Tradex Company, said that one cost of joining WTO for Vietnam is that manufacturers and the business sector must adjust their operations and be ready for the competition from foreign suppliers who will have easier access to the Vietnamese market.

The reduction of import duties in Vietnam will allow these goods to compete at a lower price in the market. This means the Vietnamese officials must build competitive capabilities for the Vietnamese industrialists. And in this effort, ‘exhibition’ is a great opportunity to improve their capabilities. This is because ‘exhibition’ is not simply a place to introduce machinery and new technology to improve manufacturing capability it is a center for raw materials, and for education from seminar tracts and for business meetings and negotiations to expand business opportunities.

Ms. Nattha further described preparations for METALEX this year, that the exhibition is being held over the full 40,000 sq. meter space, where investors, industrialists and manufacturers will see the largest machinery and metalworking technology exhibition in ASEAN. This includes over 4,000 items on show from 2,700 exhibitors from 50 countries and 11 international pavilions including Japan, Taiwan and the United Kingdom. The Japanese pavilion is showing the latest technology from leading companies such as Amada, Mitsubishi, Mori Seiki, Okuma Techno, Seilo, Sodick, and Yamazen here. Another special for this year, is the group of exhibitors from JETRO and the purchase team from 150 factories from the cities of Ota, Shinagawa, Yokohama, and Kawasaki in Japan will be here to discuss business prospects.

METALEX 2009 is a major annual event for people in the metal working industry, especially for those in the automotive, mechanical, electrical, and electronics industries from all over the world who make it a point to visit the show and update themselves in the new technology trends as many technology will be shown here for the first time in Asia.

Then there is the ‘METALEX Congress’ another major activity under METALEX 2009 with the theme Thailand – new era of investment which will show the macro-economic investment trends in Thailand, with in-depth information and viewpoints showing the industrial trends for Thailand and other countries given by experts.

“For investors and manufacturers looking for new business allies to expand investment and marketing opportunities there is a special activity zone ‘Build Marketplace’ the platform for the automotive industry to meet with quality buyers. Then there is the ‘Business Matchmaking’ platform for making appointments to discuss business with new allies in the electronics parts sector both in Thailand and in ASEAN. Another interesting activity is the Thailand Welding Competition, to seek the best welder in Thailand and to promote the standard of welding in the country. We expect at least 55,000 industrialists to visit this show,” said Ms. Nattha.
