Vietnam Cuts 2009 Target to 4M Foreign Tourists
Vietnam’s tourism authority has revised down the target to welcome international tourists this year to four million from the previous target of 4.5 million.
The global economic downturn and the swine flu are key reasons behind Vietnam’s poor tourism performance.
The country welcomed 2.8 million international arrivals in the first nine months of 2009, fell 16% on-year, Nguyen Van Tuan, head of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), said.
Vietnam expects to welcome between 4.5 million and 5 million international visitors next year.
Last year, the country reported total tourism revenue of VN60 trillion (US$3.6 billion). (STD)
