Vietnam PM Visiting Russia to Boost Strategic Partnership Ties

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung is paying an official visit to Moscow Dec 14-15 in a move to strengthen the two countries’ strategic partnership ties and comprehensive cooperation, the Voice of Vietnam radio reported on December 15.
 
The Vietnamese leader met with both nations’ leading economic groups late Dec 14, calling on them to boost investment, trade ties on a par with the two countries’ potentials and relationship.
 
Mr Dung hailed enterprises’ initiative to establish a US$500 million worth investment fund as well as strategic agreement between Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) and Russian gas export monopoly Gazprom, and others in energy and minerals fields.
 
Earlier, the Vietnamese PM held talks with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, visited the Kremlin, Mashinostroenie Machine Engineering Group and Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy.
 
Later the same day, Dung attended the launching ceremony of Vietnam Russia Bank (VRB)’s branch in Moscow, which has registered capital of US$6.98 million.
 
Vietnam and Russia officially built the strategic partnership relationship on PM Vladimir Putin’s first visit to the Southeast Asian nation in 2001.
 
Vietnam’s President Nguyen Minh Triet and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong visited Russia Oct 2008 and Apr 2009 respectively.
 
The bilateral trade has soared by 15% each year since 1990 and hit US$1.6 billion last year.
 
PM Dung left Moscow on December 15 for Copenhagen to attend the 15th UN Climate Change Conference. (www.chinhphu.vn, VOV), VOV)
