Vietnam Licenses 29,000 Enterprises in Jan-May

Vietnam licensed 29,000 companies with a combined registered capital of VND175 trillion (US$9.2 billion) in the first five months of this year, up 18.4% from a year earlier, said the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI). 
 
In May, the country licensed 7,000 enterprises with a total registered capital of VND35 trillion, according to MPI.
 
The Southeast Asian country licensed 83,000 companies in 2009 despite the global economic downturn and expects to have 540,000 business by late this year.
 
At the end of 2009, the nation had around 460,000 companies, up to over 90% of this being small and medium-sized enterprises. (Family & Society)
