Vietnam Domestic Coal Consumption Up 23.6% to 9.5MT in Jan-May

Vietnam’s domestic coal consumption rose 23.6% from a year earlier to 9.5 million tons in the first five months of this year, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
 
Coal supply for the electricity industry grew 48% on year to nearly 3.8 million tons and for the cement industry was up 43% on year to 2.2 million tons but for fertilizer and paper industries were down in the five-month period.
 
Between January and May, the Southeast Asian country exported 8.6 million tons of coal, down 12.3% on year, the ministry attributed.
 
The nation had over five million tons of coal in stock during the period, including 1.9 million ton of dust coal and nearly 3.1 million tons of high-quality coal, the ministry added.
 
This year, the state-owned Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) targets to produce 47 million to 50 million tons of coal to earn revenues of between VND63 trillion (US$3.315 billion) and VND65 trillion. (Investment)
