IEP Ranks Vietnam 38th in Global Peace Index 2010

The Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), an Australia-based global non-profit research organization, has ranked Vietnam the 38th among 149 countries in the Global Peace Index (GPI) for 2010. 
 
The ranking is based on 23 different categories including internal factors like violence, crime, human rights and military expenditure and external relations such as diplomatic relations, wars. 
 
In the 2010 ranking, New Zealand tops the list while Iraq stands at the bottom.
 
The GPI has been recognized by leading analysts and institutions. Its data is endorsed by the world famous scholars such as Kofi Annan, the Dalai Lama, archbishop Desmond Tutu, economist Jeffrey Sachs, former president of Ireland Mary Robinson and former US president Jimmy Carter.
 
Under the GPI 2010, two thirds of the surveyed countries ranked less at peace than they were a year ago. (Capital Security)
