ASEAN Information Bureau of Foreign Ministry has recently held a press conference in Hanoi to announce the contents of the 43rd ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting (AMM-43), ASEAN Ministers and Partners Meeting (PMC) and ASEAN Regional, Forum (ARF) to be held on July 15 - 23, 2010.
There will be around 20 meetings in Hanoi. It will be the most important annual event of ASEAN Foreign Ministers and partners.
According to Mr Pham Quang Vinh, Assistant Foreign Minister, Head of Vietnam ASEAN SOM, AMM-43, PMC and ARF-17 will be participated by Foreign Ministers, Heads of 27 delegations and organizations. In addition, Foreign Ministers of Papua New Guinea and East Timor will participate as special observer and invited guest of ASEAN.
The main subjects of ASEAN 2010 will be “Towards the ASEAN Community: From vision to action”, emphasizing on acceleration of ASEAN Community, bringing to life ASEAN Charter and mechanism and increasing ASEAN linkage; expanding and deepening cooperation between ASEAN and partners, improving regional forum especially ASEAN+1, ASEAN+3, East Asia Summit and ARF. The conference will also discuss measures to increase cooperation and support of partners to the efficiency of ASEAN Community, and strengthen ASEAN linkage and cooperation to overcome challenges such as natural disasters, diseases, economic recovery, climate change.
In the framework of the conference, ASEAN Ministers and related partners will also discuss on measures to recover and develop sustainable economy as well as ASEAN contribution to G20 process, especially G20 Summit to be held in Seoul in November 2010, discuss major issues raised by concerned ministers, prepare for ASEAN 17, East Asia Conference, ASEAN and each partner in Hanoi in October 2010.
Also in this year, there will be Second Summit between ASEAN and Russia, Third Summit with UN, Summit with Australia and New Zealand, Summit between Mekong regional countries and Japan, as well preparation for Second Summit between ASEAN and the US.
It is reported that AMM-43 will approve Joint Communique, the first ASEAN Inter-Governmental five-year plan on human rights, progress report of task force on ASEAN linkage master plan.
Two important documents will be signed including Third Protocol amending Treaty of Amity and Cooperation of South East Asia (TAC) to facilitate the participation of EU-EC to TAC membership as a regional organization of sovereign states. Preparation will also be made for Canadian participation in TAC.
In particular, ARF-17 will endorse Hanoi Programme of Action to implement Declaration of ARF Vision to 2020.
