The Vietnam Competition Authority (VCA) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade has run trial an early warning system of anti-dumping cases with Vietnamese and English versions at http://www.canhbaosom.vn or http://www.earlywarning.vn.

The system will update information about legal regulations of Vietnam’s main export markets in order to alert local businesses about the possibility of anti-dumping cases, VCA Head Bach Van Mung said.

In the first phase, the system will run trial for five goods categories of apparel, footwear, seafood, woodwork products and electric cables in Vietnam’s top export markets of the U.S. and the EU, Mung said.

The system will provide alert information about 10 kinds of goods in five export markets in the second phase, and about 20 goods categories in 10 markets in the third phase, the head added.

The VCA plans to officially launch the early warning system in November amid the rising number of anti-dumping cases against Vietnamese products in recent years.

Vietnam faced 34 anti-dumping lawsuits from early 1994 to June 30, 2010, of which 21 were against the country’s 15 main exports such as footwear and seafood, forcing many local firms to reduce their output.

In 2009, the Southeast Asian nation was ranked the seventh out of 100 countries and territories in the world in having to cope with the highest number of anti-dumping lawsuits. (Liberated Saigon, www.vnexpress.net))
