Vietnam Airlines to Add 583 flights for Tet Holiday
Vietnam Airlines will add 583 flights on 10 routes to meet rising travel demand of Vietnamese people during the Lunar New Year holiday, or Tet. The national flagship carrier has announced its capacity increase of over 100,000 seats on routes with the highest demand.
Accordingly, 307 more flights will be added from January 18 to February 20, 2011 on the Ho Chi Minh City - Hanoi route, providing some 63,000 more seats, up 41 % from the normal days and 8 % from the last Tet holiday. 129 more flights with 26,820 seats will be added to the Ho Chi Minh City - Da Nang City route, representing an increase of 35 % from normal operations and 24 % the last Tet.
All additional flights will depart at night to ease operation and traffic congestion at airports during the most important holiday in Vietnam. Specially, a week just before and after the first day of the lunar year, Vietnam Airlines will operate round the clock to meet any sudden surge in demand.
To prevent air ticket speculation, Vietnam Airlines will sell seats on the extra flights on the announced days. As planned, the carrier will sell 50 % of the additional seats on December 10, 2010. The rest will be sold in 3 periods with 20 % on December 20, 20 % on January 3 and the last 10 % on January 17.
Vietnam Airlines will impose heavy fines on those agents in connection with violations such as speculation and charging higher fares and more fees.
Passengers are recommended to book seats on its flights during the family reunion season at its ticketing offices and certified agents, whose addresses can be found on
