Vietnam, Korea Boost Cooperation in Energy, Mineral Mining

Vietnam and South Korea signed four memorandum of understanding (MoUs) to cooperate in energy and mineral mining in Hanoi on Dec 20.
 
The MoUs were signed in the presence of Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Le Duong Quang and Korean Deputy Minister of Knowledge Economy Park Young-jun, the Vietnam government said on its website.
 
As a result, the two sides will cooperate in developing the 2,400-MW Nam Dinh coal-fired power project worth $4.5 billion in Vietnam.
 
They will join hands in exploiting coal at Bao Dai mine, improving mining environment in Vietnam, exploring and producing oil and gas in Vietnam and third countries, and surveying rare minerals in Vietnam’s central province of Nghe An.
 
Taekwang Vina Industrial Co., Ltd of Korea and Hashinco of Vietnam will develop the Nam Dinh power plant under the form of building-operation and transfer (BOT) in the northern province of Nam Dinh.
 
The two first turbines of the four-turbine plant will be installed between 2016 and 2017 and the remaining between 2020 and 2021.
 
Vietnam plans to build 90 coal-fired power plants with a combined capacity of 106,000 MW and a total investment of $83 billion through 2025. (chinhphu.vn, Youth)
