Vietnam Targets US$5.5 Bln Aquatic Exports by 2020

The Government has ratified an aquaculture development project towards 2020 with a view to raising yearly output to over 4.5 million tonnes, earning US$5 - 5.5 billion from exports of aquaculture products and generating around 3.5 million jobs.

 

The project sets goals to increase Tra fish production to about 1.5-2 million tonnes (year-on-year growth of 4.8 percent), followed by brackish water shrimps (700,000 tonnes), mollusc (400,000 tonnes), tilapia (150,000 tonnes), and green nipper shrimp (60,000 tonnes, up 11.6 percent).

 

Central and local producers have to perfect the systems of research, production and breed provision by 2020, while focusing on intensive farming, clean technologies, environmental protection and food hygiene.
