Vietnamese Students Win First Prize of Mekong McKinsey Business Plan Challenge
The final round of the Mekong McKinsey Business Plan Challenge 2011 for university students in the Mekong River countries recently took place at Raffles Le Royal Hotel, Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
This is the second year in a row Vietnamese students have participated in this competition and won high prizes. The first prize at the McKinsey Mekong Business Plan Challenge Final 2011 was presented to students from Vietnam’s Hanoi Foreign Trade University, with their Eco-Carbon Business Plan. The second and third prizes went to students at Thammasat Business School in Thailand.
The competition in 2011 proved the development of business training in Vietnam. Last year, a group of Hanoi Foreign Trade University won the second prize of Mekong McKinsey Challenge 2010.
The Eco-Carbon Business Plan was initiated by three students, Le Hong Tam, Nguyen Thanh Thuy and Dang Hong Thai, under guidance over the past year from lecturer Nguyen Quang Huy. The first prize will bring these students a three-week fieldtrip in New York City, the United States, under the Ford International Fellowship in June 2011. With attractive investment opportunities from the competition and the fieldtrip, Vietnamese students strongly desire to produce sustainable clean energy for the future.
The Mekong McKinsey Business Plan Challenge is organised with the aim of promoting business spirit and introducing new socio-business plans in the Mekong region. McKinsey Company and Cambodia National Management University have co-organised, for the fifth time this competition for students. This year’s event drew the participation of more than 100 teams from Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam, and 11 teams were finalists.
