Vietnam, Australia Pledge to Boost Cooperation
Vietnam hopes that more Australian businesses will invest in Vietnam, said State President Nguyen Minh Triet at a reception for Quentin Bryce AC, the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, and her husband, Michael Bryce AM AE, who are on an official visit to Vietnam from May 8-14.
Mr. Triet is confident that the visit, the first official one by an Australian leader since the two countries established their diplomatic relations in 1973, will promote the traditional cooperation and partnership between the two countries.
The Governor-General conveyed congratulations from the Australian government and people on Vietnam’s recent achievements. She said Australia is willing to help Vietnam develop its economy, education, and diplomatic relationship.
At the reception, both sides agreed to boost the bilateral cooperation in all fields, especially economics, trade, investment, defense, security, natural disaster prevention, criminal matters, education, science, and technology.
They also pledged to create incentives for agricultural and aquatic imports and exports and take advantage of the ASEAN-Australia- New Zealand Free Trade Agreement to boost bilateral trade.
