More Procedures for Auto Import

Additional regulations on car import procedures are set to take effect on June 26, 2011. The Ministry of Industry and Trade said supplemented regulations on 9-seat cars are aimed to protect interests of consumers and enhance traffic safety.

 

In addition to existing papers, businesses will be required to show papers stating that they are authorised importers or distributors of genuine car makers and the papers must be certified by Vietnam’s diplomatic agencies abroad when they import cars of less than nine seats.

 

Car traders said these regulations are technical barriers to imported cars and they do not impinge on World Trade Organization (WTO) principles on discrimination towards businesses trading in the same items. With the regulations, unauthorised salons will hardly get the nod from genuine car manufacturers to stay on par with the ministry’s requirements.
