In Hanoi, market construction and management has gradually been socialized. The city is also promoting commercial development - general services in towns, townships, with priority on developing new forms of retail such as commercial centres, shopping malls, common and specialised supermarkets.
Trade centre development
The system of the Hanoi wholesale market has gradually been established. In August 2010, wholesale market in the south was in its first phase operation, solving the problem of spontaneous trading points, reducing the traffic load on Hanoi, and creating the modern urban appearance of the Capital.
Currently, Hanoi has 402 markets, 11 trade centres and 62 supermarkets. With 11 trade centres, the number is around 16 percent of the trade centres of the country, mainly concentrated in the urban districts of Hanoi. The total area of trade centres is around 298,346 sq. metres, averaging 27,122 sq. metres per trade centre. Under the plan, by 2030, Hanoi will build 130 more shopping centres and 30 large supermarkets.
However, the current trade centres only provide services such as shops and supermarkets, offices, entertainment, sports and restaurants. This shows that the service functions of the trade centres have not been fully expanded.
New tasks
To maintain growth momentum and overcome the current difficulties, Hanoi industrial and commercial sector will continue to perform the tasks outlined at the beginning of the year. Besides, Hanoi will make new solutions to overcome difficulties, promote production and export, help enterprises to restructure technology strategy, markets, investment, and support business expansion in Hanoi’s competitive products. Hanoi will also promote its economic restructuring, identify key export items and increase the proportion of processed and added value products.
In response to the Government's campaign "The Vietnamese use Vietnamese products," the Hanoi Industry and Trade Department will continue to transport goods to rural areas. It continues to support industrial enterprises to solve difficulties in the domestic market. Hanoi industry and trade will also promote the control and prevention of poor quality, counterfeit and smuggled goods. At the same time, it aims to expand export markets as well, for developing a commercial system. In 2011, Hanoi will develop supermarkets in suburban districts like Dong Anh, Thanh Oai, and Thuong Tin.
Hanoi Industry and Trade Department will propose shortening administrative procedures, building open policies and legal compliance mechanisms.
