Seminar on Attracting Japanese SMEs to Industrial Parks
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in collaboration with Foreign Investment Agency (FIA) under Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) and Vietnam Development Forum (VDF) organised on June 22 a seminar entitled “Attracting Japanese SMEs to Industrial Parks for the Development of Supporting Industries in Vietnam”.
The seminar focused on the case of attracting Japanese SMEs. The discussion among developers of industrial parks, Japanese SMEs, consultants, and the officials of the Government, reviewed efforts to attract SMEs by industrial parks, confirmed achievements by such actions, identified specific issues and/or obstacles, and shared good practices and lessons learnt for stakeholders involved. The seminar also aimed to come up with policy recommendations by which the Government could make further actions to accelerate the promotion of investment by SMEs from Japan and other foreign countries for the development of supporting industries in Vietnam.
Supporting industry is paid greater attention by the Government for the purpose of adding more value to the products produced in Vietnam, and thereby reducing the trade deficit. Many efforts have been made to promote the development of Vietnamese supporting industries. Among those, since 1999, Japan has been supporting Vietnamese SMEs by conducting a SME finance project which is now at the 3rd Phase.
