Long Thanh Int’l Airport Approved

The Prime Minister has approved the plan for Long Thanh International Airport in Long Thanh district, Dong Nai province. The airport is levelled at 4F (a grade for airports used by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is capable of serving 100 million passengers and 5 million tonnes of goods a year.

 

According to the plan, the airport, covering on 5,000 ha, will have two simultaneous landing and take-off runways by 2020, three simultaneous runways by 2030, and four runways after 2030. The facility will be capable of serving 25 million passengers a year by 2020, 50 million passengers by 2030, and 100 million passengers after 2030.

 

The project will be divided into three phases. The first phase spanning to 2020 is estimated to cost US$6.74 billion. The construction on the airport is planned to be commenced in 2015 and the first phase is scheduled for completion and operation in 2020.
