Hanoi Enjoys 9.3% Growth in First 6 Months

Hanoi’s economy expanded at 9.3% in the first six months of 2011, dotted with a number of positive signals, according to a report prepared by the Municipal People’s Committee.
 
The city’s industrial production increased by 12.8% and total revenue of retail sales of goods and serviceswas estimated at VND 485 billion, up by 21.7%.
Tourism sector contributed largely to the city’s gross domestic product with a volume generated from 5.6 million tourist arrivals in the reviewed period.
 
Most noticeably, export turnover reached US $4.26 billion, or an increase of 17.2% against the same period of 2010, compared to the preset target of 14%.
 
Also in the first half of 2011, Hanoi poured over VND 77,155 billion in development projects.
 
The city ranked second in terms of foreign investment attraction, with registered capital inflow accounting for 18.6% of the country’s total foreign direct investment.
 
Foreign investors pledged US $ 875 million, or 6.7 times higher than the same period last year. Disbursed volume was estimated at US $370 million, surging by 46% year on year.
 
The city plans to achieve annual growth rate of 12% in 2011 – 2015 and raise per capita income to around US $4,100 – 4,300 by 2015.
