In the years to come, Danang City will strive to create 32,000-34,000 jobs each year, reduce the unemployment rate to 4% by 2015, and increase the number of trained workers to 65%.

So said Ms Nguyen Thi Thanh Hung, Director of the Danang Department of Labour, War-Invalids and Social Affairs during a recent meeting to review the job creation project in the 2005-2010 period.

According to Ms Hung, five years after the implementation of the project, Danang City created jobs for over 161,000 people of working age.

Together with job creation, Danang City also focused on vocational training for workers with 53 centres training 168,000 trainees in 122 industries in five years. Over VND 41 billion was invested in building facilities and equipment for vocational training.

Dantri newspaper reported that in five years, 91 work fairs were held with the participation of nearly 105,000 workers. At present, work fairs are held twice per month to create favourable conditions for workers to access employment.

The city will complete the labour market information system and a portal for training by 2015 so that workers have an official information channel on labour supply and demand.
