HCM City to Transfer Five Ports by 2010
Ho Chi Minh City will complete the transfer of five ports out of the city from now to 2010, of which Tan Cang Port and the Ba Son Shipbuilding Plant will be relocated before 2006.
According to the Southern Transport Design Consulting Company, Tan Cang Port will be removed and built on a 63 hectare area in Cat Lai with at a total cost of VND800 billion (US$51.28 million), and Ba Son Shipbuilding Plant will be removed to the Cai Mep Port with a total investment of VND1,428 billion (US$91.53 million).
The remaining ports of Saigon, Tan Thuan Dong, Bong Sen, and Rau Qua (Vegetable) will be moved to Cai Mep and Thi Vai ports in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, Hiep Phuoc Port in HCM City, and Nhon Trach in Dong Nai province with an estimated capital of VND7,280 billion (US$466.66 million).
